Harian Metro

Front page on 19 March 2018. Harian Metro is a Malaysian daily newspaper published in the Malay language by the New Straits Times Press. Established in March 1991, it was Malaysia's first afternoon Malay-language tabloid in the Klang Valley, distinguishing it from the morning tabloids common in other parts of the country. Harian Metro is recognized as the first and oldest Malay-language tabloid and is currently the highest-circulating newspaper in Malaysia, across all languages.

In response to the changing demographics of urban readers, the newspaper shifted its focus to cater to a younger audience interested in entertainment, shopping, lifestyle features, and current events.

On 17 July 2006, Harian Metro underwent a layout redesign to remain relevant and appealing to its readers. This update introduced new sections, including "Rap" and "Variasi." Later, on 11 April 2009, the newspaper expanded its content further with new pullouts, such as "GIGS" and "EKSTRA," along with an increase in the cover price.

In 2011, Harian Metro retained its position as the No. 1 daily Bahasa Melayu newspaper for the fifth time, as declared by the Audit Bureau of Circulations. However, it lost this status to its rival, Mingguan Malaysia, in the second quarter of 2013, largely due to the growing availability of online news sources and the subsequent expansion of their audiences.
