description | This project is about the use of producer gas produced from a self-made gasification system as fuel for a prime mover. The feed stocks used is palm oil waste or by-product, namely, the fibre and shell. In this project, the whole system has been set-up by connecting the gasification system to the engine-generator system. However, in order to use the producer gas as a source of fuel for the engine, some modifications has to be done such as a gas-air mixer to replace the carburettor. The mixer design detail is presented by using several flow theories. The mixer is necessary due to the peculiar gas-air ratio for the new system and also for the conversion of the existing liguid fuel (petrol) engine to an engine which will consume gas. It is found that the producer gas can be use as a fuel in the engine. The starting operation of the whole system has been found, however, there are few problems arises and more research and development works have to be carried out to further improve the system. Lastly, some recommendations is presented. |
