description | Inland riverboats play an increasingly important role in socio-economic activities in Sarawak. Through time, economic development has made possible the development of infrastructural requirement for inland waterway transportation for most areas. Technological wonders have also created astonishing river boats in Sarawak. However, recent incidents on accidents involving such boats has caused a major stir. Safety features and navigational and operational capability of such boat have been debated much. This study attemps to clarify the design concept of such boats in three aspects; technical, economic and social. In the technical analysis, serious effort has been concentrated on boat's physical dimension, and other basic characteristic. These values has been compared to standard values given by rules and regulations. NPV method is used to investigate whether the boat is economically feasible and the provision of basic facilities for safety and comfort has been directlycompared has been directly compared to local requirement. |
