| Summary: | The Malaysian National Strategy for Plant Conservation is a recent initiative by Malaysia to consolidate past and existing efforts towards biological diversity conservation. The strategy has 17 targets designed specifically to address how Malaysia could progress forward in plant conservation, taking into cognizance the rationale behind each target and the current situation. Three targets are related to understanding and documenting plant diversity while six targets deal with conserving plant diversity. Five, one and two targets elaborate on using plant diversity sustainable, promoting education and awareness about plant diversity and building capacity for the conservation of plant diversity respectively. Many of the targets are closely linked and share a common approach. The objectives and targets are based on the framework established by the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation under the Convention of Biological Diversity.
