Streszczenie:This thesis is a study of a massive Urban Redevelopment Project undertaken by the Urban Development Authority to mark the departure of Kuala Lumpur towards a better planned city. The project DAYABUMI has captured the interest of all the people in this region. It is the first comprehensive development undertaken by UDA. Formerly the site was used by the Keretapi Tanah Melayu as its marshalling areas and godowns. Realizing the potential of the site Tun Abdul Razak, then, the Prime Minister of Malaysian coined the idea of DAYABUMI. Financial constraint among others have been the reason for the difficulty and delay in putting the project on the ground. Dato' Seri Dr. Mahathir, the new Prime Minister has taken a very personal interest on this project and has taken a very important role in getting the project on the ground. Initially the project consists of:- - a 60 storey tower block; - Bank Pertanian; - GPO/Postal H.Q.; - KLCE Block; - Computer Station. The 60 storey tower block was later reduced to 36 storey. The task of constructing this tower block is being entrusted on a Japanese joint-venture company, Takenaka - Kumagai. The Japanese firm agreed to complete the construction within 26 months at a cost of $323 million. The scope of study will encompass :- 1. Kuala Lumpur's historical background; 2. The New Economic Policy; 3. UDA - it's role and policy according to the New Economic Policy. 4. DAYABUMI - the project; 5. The concept and policy behind it; 6. Development process; 7. Project Management; 8. Construction technology; 9. Environmental aspect; 10. Potentiality of the development and its effect. The scope of study is just a general view of urban redevelopment without stressing on any particular area of discipline. Perhaps I should mention here that the project management aspect on Chapter 3, 4 and 5 is emphasised though.
