Riassunto: | After data have been evaluated, the following are found. The squatters are not totally a 'dieseas' to society but they have certain potentialities which can be utilised so that they are an asset to the society. The potentialities can be grouped into three, i.e. economic, social nd physical. Economically, the squatters are - (a) not too poor to provide for their own dwelling units (b) earning above the proverty line at $300/household/month (c) the problem of unemployment do exist so the idle labour can be used to build their own settlement. Socially the squatter are - (a) living in a traditional way of life (b) keen to improve their environment - socially and physically (c) very well-organised. Physical - (a) if "standards" were applied the problem of overcrowding does not exist, their dwelling units are more spacious than the low-cost flats built based on effective demand only (b) the squatter dwelling units are not 100percent bad and to be demolished (c) the settlement is very peaceful without traffic (d) the squatters compromise lack of space with symbiotic use of space (e) the problems exist are in nature and can be improved if more positive steps are taken by the government. |
