Description
Summary:Surge arrester is widely accepted as one of teh protection devices in thetransmission and distribution system. Despite of its reliability, it is important to ensure all surge arresters in service are in good operating conditocondition in order to avoid any problems in the electrical power system. Therefore, monitoring the conditon of surge arrester cannot be avoided.A few experiments on the condition monitoring of surge arrester had been done recently. However, till now no such experiment to monitor the condition of low voltage surge arrester. In this project, two amplifier circuits have been suggested as the mainmedium to monitor the performance of the low voltage surge arrester. Theamplifiers; the differential amplifier and the current to voltage converteramplifier will be use in monitoring the low leakage current from the arresters. Te result of a few experimental test on the two circuits showed thatthe amplifiers are capable to amplify the low current and convert the imputcurrent signals to voltage output. However, the circuits still cannot be used in monitoring the condition of the low voltage surge arresters. The amplifiers showed lots of noise and distortion in the output signals which may be caused by electromagneticinterference, improper connection and etceteras.
