Description
Summary:It is now generally realized that there is a need for better planning and control of maintenance, as it represent a major area of cost saving in a manufacturing environment. A case study on the implementation of a Computerized Maintenance Management System in a local manufacturing industry was undertaken. It covered each of the various component of maintenance management, from the fundamental principles to the implementation of a computerized system. An introduction was given on teh objectives of implementing the maintenance management. The fundamental principles and philosophy of maintenance management was reviewed including discussion on the basic element of maintenance management system, such as maintenance planning and control, maintenance documentation system as well as preventive maintenance. As an extension to manualsystem, the principles of Computerized maintenance Management System was also discussed. Problems and objectives of this project were defined. Discussion on existing manual maintenance system and the associated inventory system were presented. IMplementation details were discussed. This included necessary steps to implementing a Computerized Maintenance Management System. Although the discussions were factory-specific, general principles of maintenancemanagement system still applies. The documentation system and its flow were included. Problems encountered during the implementation were discussed. Features of a typical Computerized Maintenance Management System were also described, with suggestion for improvement on the existing software.
