Summary:A computerised database management system is a must in today's businessenvironment to help a company or department maintain competitive advantage.This project studied the Purchasing Department at Auto parts Manufacturers Co. Sdn. Bhd. (APM 2). Problems existing in the current system were identified for further improvement or solution.A computerused information management system for the Purchasing Departmentis proposed and a ptototype system is developed using the dBase IV programming language. The system has demostrated it's capabilities to handle all themajor functions performed by the depertment in separated modules, whichare Purchase order System, Delivery Order System, Reject and Return System,Part Costing System and Database Maintenance System.The benefits of the suystem to the company are discussed, tangible and intangible contributions suggest that the proposed system is acceptable to thecompany. The expected payback period is 1 year and 3 months. Conclusionand recommendations for future work are provided.
