Description
Summary:The use of Diaphragm Wall technology in various civil engineering construction has become increasingly popular. Therefore the study fo Diaphragm Walling Techniques, A Malaysian Case Study has been initiated to capture a better understanding of the process of constructing Diaphragm Wall within Malaysian environment. The first phase of this study concerns the theoretical part. In this preliminary phase, the history of its development and various uses of Diaphragm Wall are being tabled. Subsequently, the details have been extended to the technology of using Slurry Bentonite as the stabilizing fluid. This covers the understanding of the behaviour of this clay, how it helps in stabilizing fluid. This covers the understanding of the behaviour of this clay, how it helps in stabilizing trenches, the geotechnical properties of it as well as the technique to use and to recycle it. The study also deals with the material of Diaphragm Wall construction in current practice. The major onebeing concrete and steel reinforcement is as required in the specification followed by the construction procedure of the Diaphgragm Wall. It has been observed that there is no formal Diaphragm Wall construction guide recomended inthis thesis is solely based on practical experience with a leading Diaphragm Wall construction company in our country. The second phase is the analytical study of the Diaphragm Wall/ The first half is to produce the theoretical formulas in analyzing the stability of Diaphragm Wall. Next is to carry out a case study wherethe site data has been used for analysis. The results will, hopefully be served as a guide for more work on Diaphragm Wall owing to the rapid construction development in the country.
