| Ամփոփում: | Introduction/problem statement : UKM has undergone a vigorous physical development since its transfer from Jalan Pantai Baru, Kuala Lumpur to Bangi, Selangor way back in 1977. Parallel with that, major problems arise regarding the development works in UKM. UKM as a 'new university' and 'big educational organisation' has 3 main components of human force, which are : (i) Students; (ii) Academicians; (iii) Administrative staffs. From these components, the varsity has to achieve 3 main functions: (i) Teaching; (ii) Research; (iii) Public Service. As a functional organisation, all facilities have to be provided simultaneously. Major development works was supposed to be under the responsibility of the Development Unit offices. The planning was easy but the implementation was far more difficult. Main problem from the start, is the involvement of too many consultants, contractors, suppliers, etc, at one time. Therefore, the development activities must have tight control and coordination. The problem lie on 3 stages : (i) University level; (ii) Consultant level; (iii) Supplier level. As the problem become more complex and expending, the UKM authorities decided that the need for a 'Self-supporting System' in the campus itself, could help to reduce and lighten the problems. Above all, the proposed complex will consist of other main components in servicing the campus such as, a central store, office spaces for development unit and administration, maintenance workshops, an environmental and recreational unit, a vehicular centre, etc.
