description TIDE is the CEC programme aimed at stimulating the creation of a Single Market in Rehabilitation Technology through cooperation in R&D projects, standardization and harmonization of technological products and services. Rehabilitation technology is the total of technologies provided directly to elderly and/or disabled people, to enable them to live more independent lives and become integrated in all the activities of their communities, preferably outside of institutional care. The focus of TIDE is to find pragmatic technological solutions that enable and empower disabled and/or elderly people by reducing their handicaps. Ths book, written by experts from within and outside Europe, shares the results of the projects and discuss critical issues and possibilities for the future of rehabilitation technology in Europe, a future with an enormous market of between 60 and 80 million people concerned.
