description | The scope of the thesis will cover the study of the whole planning of the site but the concentration of the study will go to the design and organisation of the academic spaces in relation to the living zone as the secondary element supporting it. Through studies of the organisational structure of the Postal De[artment, the department has a close-knitted organisation that comprises of the various disciplines that were interdepending on each other in carrying out the task appointed to them successfully. Therefore the main constituent which comprises of the staff from the various disciplines needs to be organised and trained from time to time to comprehend each individual responsibilities within the Department. In view of this objective, the Institute will adopt the LINEAR PLANNING concept in accordance to the site nature and setting with the trainee circulation in between the academic and the living zone. The Institute campus concept will not be so much a formal amount of study time but a place in which to study as a total experience of campus living including and traqining and acquiring of knowledge and understanding. The provision of the spaces include the concious and unconcious activities that will occur within the campus as the total situation resulting from the interaction between the human activity and the physical environment. Therefore the Institute should be a place that procedures, contains and susains the autonomous association of varying scale on numerous levels of activities and spaces. In approaching the design the criterisas that was used is the study of the site in term of the setting, topographical nature, building arrangement and outlooks and activities that will occur within the campus in relation to the surrounding environment of the site. As an educational centre, the Institute will have a physical planning that is in tension that it requires growth from time to time. In view to such needs, the campus planning will adapt the 'continous teaching environment' concept in a more compact approach to fulfill the objectives. From the various studies made such concept is so well suited as it make use of a physical form that allows accreted growth and changes while encouraging maximum communication among the constituent parts of the Institute by means of a central mall spine acts as public spaces. The major zones of the Institute will be comprised of a) academic zone and b) dwelling accomnodation and c) communal zone. These elements will be arrange on two sides as such that they will allow for future expansion without imposing a physical differential of averall outlook to the completed planning. Physiscal educational facilities and parking facilities will be planned on the outside of the building perimeter but still maintain the appropriate relationship. |
