Summary: | Zinc is one of the most widely plated metals today. Many types of electrolyte are practiced and one of them are potassium acid chloride. Potassium acid chloride have grew as a prominent variety in the world of electroplating. In Malaysia, pottassium acid chloride is new and has yet to prove and establise itself. Since this electrolyte is new in Malaysia, the optimum operating parameters practiced were the ones developed in western countries. This project is regarding a study on the influence of parameters on the potassium acid chloride electrolyte for the Malaysian environment. The parameters concern are pH, current density and temperature. Mild steel plates were plated for 15 minutes with different combinations of parameters. The specimens later were visual inpection, topography study, thickness test, bend test hardness test and tensile test. From the various tests results, relationships of these parameters on the quality of the deposits were studied and based on them, an optimum operating parameters for potassium acid chloride system was formulated.
