description | The impact of the MRUs as the engine of growth for nation building are conceived in terms of four enablers, namely, (i) talent development, (ii) research prominence, (iii) wealth creation, and (iv) bridging the grand challenge. One of the functions of the MRUs is to supply human resources for the expanding and changing economy with the aim that Malaysia will become a high-income country by 2020. Another function is to create, disseminate and apply knowledge as well as to innovate and invent new information and technology such that Malaysia is fast becoming an information society and a knowledge-based economy. Another impact of MRUs would be wealth creation by enhancing industry, attracting investment and enhancing both government agencies and NGOs. The MRUs also have the role of bridging the grand challenge by transforming society through knowledge dissemination and technology transfer. |
