| Summary: | Mek Mulung is a traditional Malay dance drama with its own unique character. It is believed to have originated from Ligor (in modern Thailand), to have developed as it was passed down the generations and then to have been introduced into Kedah. Mek Mulung is still performed today by one family in Kampung Wang Tepus, Jitra Kedah. It combines singing, dancing and dialogue. The words of the songs and the dialogue are based on old Malay tales, and are very largely in the Kedah dialect. The accompanying music is traditiona. There are elements of animism and spirit worship in the sambut guru (welcoming the teacher) and healing arituals
