description This book has two main objectives - to examine and reflect upon current practices, theoretical perspectives of online applications in the teaching and learning of English (ELT) in Malaysia and to chart the emerging uses of the Internet for ELT in Malaysia. For researchers and end users of the book, awarenessof current thoughts and ideas regarding the Internet and its uses for ELT would be significantly enhanced. Thus, new research could be initiated and new practices could be thought of, All these enrich the existing literature on Internet and ELT in Malaysia. The book discusses three main themes Classroom practices of online language learningand teaching Synchronous and asynchronous communication in language learning and teaching, and Online applications in language teacher education. In the first theme, the uses of websites and web pages for ELT are discussed. The second theme focuses on the features and advantages of utilizing synchronous and asynchronous tools such as online discussions, messaging tools and chat rooms to contribute to teaching and learning in terms of interaction, collaborative learning and language acquisition. The final theme examines the uses of Internet devices for the education of language teachers. It encompasses the professional learning and development of pre-service and in-service teachers.
