Summary: | We are inclined to publish only those records which improve upon previous records or which are newly significant in having become the subject of widespread and preferably international competitiveness. However, in no circumstances will we undertake to publish any record. It should be stressed that unique occurrences, interesting peculiarities or 'firsts' are not in themselves necessarily records. Records in our sense essentially have to be both measurable and comparable. Records which are qualified in some way, for example, by age, day of the week, county, etc, cannot be accommodated in a reference work so general as The Guinness Book of Records.
