Summary: | Planning, first published almost fifty years ago, retains in this new edition its position as the architectural profession's oldest and most comprehensive reference book. There can be few architects' offices that do not possess and constantly use at least one copy and students have always found it to be an essential source of information. This new edition is published in one volume, in contrast to the five volumes of the ninth edition, as it is felt that this produces a much more useable and accessible reference. As before, Planning's unique characteristic is that it indicates how various types of building are planned by supplying information and data that are essential before planning can begin. Buildings are illustrated by plans and diagrams, either in part or whole, showing the ways in which particular problems have been solved.
