Summary: | Ten years for YPASM is a fairly short time, but for the Malaysian polar research it has been a long journey for over a quarter of a century. With the formation of YPASM, the foundation is set, but the future needs to be managed to ensure that the programme grows and becomes comparable to those of many developed countries. We need more dedicated Malaysian scientists committed to long-term research on the ice. We need innovative ideas to link polar science to tropical science, seeing how Malaysia is a tropical country. We need more postgraduate students to undertake research on "the ice". We need more Malaysian scientists to collaborate with more internationally known scientists and deliver scientific research papers in international conferences. The opportunities are vast, especially in fundamental research.
