description BEM is crossing the 50th century line with the clear vision to be recognised as "an authoritative body of international standing that regulates the engineering practice in Malaysia". To bring this to fruition, it has mapped out the BEM Strategic Plan [2021-2025] that is underscored by the drive for engineering excellence and competence among its registered persons. Engineering is the backcone of nation building. It also represents the potential of a nation to scale unprecedened heights, unleashing a variety of talents to create man-made wonders that serve people, safely and sustainably. Malaysia has its share of achievements in this regard, and tehy are the pride of the nation. The engineering fraternity, in continuing the work of these high achievers has to march in lockstep, and become standard-bearers of quality, innovation and adaptabiloty, moving with evolving trends and stakeholder expectations. The world is transforming further, disrupted by IR4.0, and technologies are now encompassing every sphere of life. Advaned economies are harnessing them and leading in the governance, managemetn and operations. The IR4.0 environment, which is part of the National Digital Economy Blueprint with a strong focus on digitalisation, is reshaping the economic, social, cultural and human environment like never before. IR4.0 technologies are blurringboundaries and causing disruptions in almost every industry in the country. Malaysia's National Policy on IR4.0 envisions a significant rise in productivity across all sectors of the industry and for the country to be listed in the Top 20 Global Innovation Index. Similtaneously, teh engineering profession has to handle the pressure of market demands. The business environment is competitive, made more intense with the market liberalisation of certain sectors.
