| Summary: | Malaysia's capital market regulator, Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) turned 30 in 2023. From its humble beginnings in a small corner of the former Finance Ministry office in Jalan Duta to its impressive steel and glass building in Bukit Kiara, the SC went from being an "unwelcome new kid on the block", to a respected authority, both within and outside Malaysia. In that time, some of Malaysia's best brains came together to map out the growth of the SC and shape its capital market into what it is today. In this book, we chronicle the 30-year journey based on personal narratives from past and current leaders of the SC, as well as capital market experts, key partners and keen observers. This is the first time some of these insights are being shared with the public. The book also outlines the SC's efforts to support the Islamic capital market, sustainability and digitalisation agenda and how it kept the stock market running smoothly during the COVID-19 lockdowns. In short, it shares insights of how the SC pulled together without losing sight of its higher purpose of ensuring fair and orderly capital formation. This is ultimately a story of men and women overcoming many stumbling blocks to ensure the capital market kept running through economic crises and a global pandemic.
