description Lately there are high occurrences of natural disasters in Malaysia. Does it have anything to do with earth been suffering from extreme weather conditions or could be any other reasons to it. Some scientists say that the temperature of the Earth is on the rise, which results in global warming. As the consequence to that, scientific theory also explains how global warming causes icebergs to melt in the colder regions, which in turn causes natural disasters around the world. If these theories are real, can we humans manage and control the climate changes as well as mitigate the post disasters issues more efficiently? Can this unwanted natural phenomenon be stopped for good if we can predict the occurrence more accurately and the effects reversible? To what extend all these disasters impaired the livelihood of fellow Malaysian? With all these questions in mind, this book has been drafted to give some useful insights into the most traditional and the typical disasters in Malaysian land. Listed below are some examples of the natural disasters and the extreme weather conditions that have occurred in Malaysia, over the past year: Landslide in Tanah Rata, Cameron Highland (2014) Earthquake in Ranau, Sabah (2015) Peatland fire in Pekan, Kuantan (2015) Flash flood in Jalan Duta, Kuala Lumpur (2016) Heat wave due to El Nino in Malaysia (2016) Oil spillage in Port Dickson (2016) Flash flood in Penang (2017) Studying about natural disasters in Malaysia today can be worrying as the severity and the damages caused not only to the mother earth, but also to the mankind as there were many lost in life during the catastrophic destruction. From the data accumulated and presented in this book it looks like the trend of increase in natural disasters will continue and the impact will remains for many years to come. The authors have made tremendous effort in gathering all the important information from the past and present on disasters in Malaysia. The materials and data used in these chapters were carefully chosen based on its relevancy and to supplement for the needs of the readers at present time. Each chapter has its uniqueness, the content was well digested with the Midas touch of authors’ vast experience and knowledge in their respective field. Some of the chapters were reviewed by experts in the field with positive feedbacks.
