Summary: | This thesis investigates with a perpetual motion machines which is a machine which can work forever with energy supplied only once. The objective for this thesis is to fabricate a perpetual motion drinking bird and to investigate the mechanical phenomena behind the system. Basically, the drinking bird is an example of a heat engine which violates the thermodynamic law in order to move forever. The body of drinking bird contains a type of chemical (methylene chloride) which is volatile and the boiling point is close to room temperature. Experiments are then being carried out by designing and fabricating a toy drinking bird which is achievable within capabilities. The materials used can be easily obtained from any local hardware stores. Unfortunately, the fabricated drinking bird does not work at all. The problems faced are discussed and a new design of drinking bird is created. Not only that the new drinking bird does not depend on water, yet it utilizes solar energy to work. The reason of failure will be discussed as well. Further, suggested ideas are then being proposed in fabricating a better water drinking bird in the future. |
