description Excessive release of heavy metals into the environment is becoming the important part to be considered. Some of heavy metals widely discharged as ions into wastewater are cadmium, copper, lead, zinc, mercury, and iron.Copper is a common substance that occurs naturally in the environment and spreads through the environment due naturally phenomena and some activities such as mining, metal production and phosphate fertilizer production. Thus, the elimination of copper is very important because copper is a trace element that is dangerous for human health. The objective of this thesis is to investigate the effectiveness of rice husk as adsorbent for the removal of copper ions from synthetic wastewater. This study was apply the adsorption process in copper solution.Investigation was carried out by studying the effect of initial solution pH,dosage amount of adsorbent and duration time. Effect of different pH value were study using pH value of 2 to 6, while dosage amount of rice husk is between 0.5 to 5.0 g/L and duration time is 10 to 90 minutes. The results of removal copper ion were determined using refractometer where the refractive index of each sample is checked. Then, the concentration is determined using the standard curve. It was found that, the removal of copper ions increased as dosage amount of rice husk increase. However, the percentage of removal decreased with the increasing of adsorbent dosage at value 3.0 g and above. Also, the adsorption of copper ions increases with increasing the pH value. At pH value 6,the percentage of removal is decrease because the solution started precipitate. For the effect of duration time, the result obtained show that the removal of copper is increase as the duration time is increase. The experimental data were analyzed to determine the maximum adsorption capacity of each parameter for copper ions removal. It shows that the maximum adsorption capacity for pH, adsorbent dosage and duration time parameter is 75%, 82.5% and 75% respectively.
