Description
Summary:The main goal of the paper is to analyze the current state of transfer of knowledge into practice in the largest scientific institution in Slovakia, the Slovak Academy of Sciences. The research team from the Institute of Molecular Biology SAS, p. r. i., developed and optimized a method for determining the antibacterial activity of honey, and in cooperation with the State Veterinary and Food Administration in Bratislava, this unique test was accredited by the Slovak National Accreditation Service. The project called the „Honey Laboratory“ is the first of its kind not only in Slovakia, but also has its only representation at the international level. Slovakia, as the only country among the member states of the European Union, offers this accredited method as a commercial service not only for beekeepers, but also for consumers. In the honey laboratory, they deal with testing honey samples, where they then assign a medal to the honey depending on the quality mark - from gold to bronze, according to the level of their antibacterial activity.
