Summary:The interaction of general secondary educational institutions and local self-government bodies is caused by the fact that this cooperation helps to create favourable conditions for solving the problems, which the system of education has to face with, increasing the quality of education and development of all participants of educational process. The interaction of local self-government bodies and general secondary educational institutions is considered to be the establishment and development of mutually beneficial relations between local authorities, schoolchildren and teachers for joint solution of important problems. It is based on the principles of mutual benefit, transparency, volunteering, two-way communication, honesty, respect and equality. The directions of interaction of local self-government bodies and general secondary educational institutions have been characterized. They are: management of educational system, educational-upbringing activities, teachers' scientific-methodical training, social security of participants in the educational process, material and technical support of educational institutions and publishing activities. The forms and methods of interaction of local self-government bodies and general secondary educational institutions have been revealed. They are support of activities of socially active schools, ensuring the implementation of projects and programs in civic education, support of activities of regional youth school organizations, holding contests, schoolchildren's competitions in subjects, tournaments, competitions (tourism and local history, sporting, intellectual), festivals, games (patriotic-sporting, intellectual), meetings, exhibitions, excursions, seminars-practicum, organization and facilitation of the work of museums, children's festivals, production and distribution of information materials about native land, education and local-self-government bodies. The difficulties in interaction of local self-government bodies and general secondary educational institutions have been revealed. They are insufficient legal framework in education, formal attitude of the participants of interaction to their participation in various activities, insufficient funding for activities, insufficient involvement of parents in this interaction, the need for improvement of the mechanisms of direct democracy etc.
