Description
Summary:Experimental analysis of the effect of a lithium-ion battery thermal management system using natural convection and phase change material (PCM) at 3 C discharge rate. The cells are placed in a 2 × 2 square configuration in an acrylic housing with the capability to contain PCM. The experimental setup simulates lithium-ion batteries using ceramic heaters, producing the heat energy per unit volume as produced in a lithium-ion cell. The system placed in natural convection instantly heats up to 45 °C in 305 s. On the other hand, the system, when placed in phase change material, shows that a temperature of 45 °C is achieved in 1490 s.
