Summary:In 2018, Netflix announced plans to expand into film production, and was soon followed by Japanese streaming platforms. How can these different production structures work with one another in a market controlled historically by major studios and television? Many have high hopes for the future of creation in Video on Demand (VOD), but can it really change the industry? What strategies have Japanese structures adopted to compete with the American giant? This article will assess both what national and international video streaming services have to offer, examine the positions of these various structures, and study the issues related to this new form of production, such as new dynamics.
