Description
Summary:Summary. There is a need for a better understanding of sleep disorders in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) combined with hypertension to develop effective care strategies for such patients. The aim of the study – to assess the level of daytime sleepiness in patients with hypertension on the background of polycystic ovary syndrome. Materials and Methods. The study included 54 women with PCOS, aged (38.4±2.3), hypertension was diagnosed in 24 patients (experimental group 1) and 20 patients with normal blood pressure (comparison group). The control group consisted of 10 healthy individuals. ESS-Epworth scale was used to screen for sleep apnea syndrome. Results. In case of hypertension on the background of PCOS the moderate likelihood of drowsiness in the following poses and actions: sitting and reading, watching TV programs, while driving is registered a passenger in the car for 1 hour without a break, lying down, resting, in the afternoon, when circumstances allow, sitting at rest in the afternoon without drinking alcohol. These patients in study group 1 have little chance of drowsiness when they sit (without activity) in a public place, such as during a meeting or in the theater, sitting with someone talking, sitting in the car behind the wheel, stopping for a few minutes. The data obtained in patients of the experimental groups 1 and 2 probably exceed the results obtained in the control group (except for "sitting in the car behind the wheel, stopping for a few minutes" in the comparison group). The data obtained indicate an increase in the level of daytime sleepiness in women with PCOS, in combination with hypertension. Conclusions. The results indicate an increased level of daytime sleepiness, which corresponds to moderate drowsiness, in patients with hypertension on the background of polycystic ovary syndrome, while patients with PCOS without hypertension show only mild daytime sleepiness compared to the normal range of sleepiness in healthy women
