description | Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) is an important tool for the decarbonization of the energy system to achieve the mid-century global climate change targets. CO2 is captured using different industrial processes that involve membrane filtering or enhanced combustion. The CO2 is then transported, preferably by pipeline, to a storage site where it is injected into a permeable reservoir. Sealing capacity of the storage site is of paramount importance for safe CO2 sequestration, to avoid any geological leakage. Each CCS project must have a dedicated MMV (Measurement, Monitoring and Verification) programme to ensure conformance with the expected evolution of the CO2 plume and its containment within the storage site. Eni is committed to the implementation of CCS, with several ongoing projects. |
