description Logic as a philosophical discipline had a radical change from the argumentative perspective of the new rhetoric. This led to the division of logic into two areas: 1) formal logic and 2) informal logic. The types of arguments within informal logic are effective in persuading the audience, but they can be fallacious instruments, such is the case of arguments from authority and ad verecundiam fallacies. Authoritative arguments are an indispensable part of scientific communication as an essential requirement in the construction of knowledge. This contribution is focused on showing some inappropriate uses of arguments from authority that can constitute fallacies in the construction and socialization of science.
