| description | This paper reflects on the literary production of Argentine artist Eduardo Schiaffino. Reconsidering the significance of his practice as a writer in relation to his other activities, it proposes to approach the artist as a “cultural mediator” following the definition of Reine Meylaerts and Maud Gonne—i.e. as someone who moved between disciplines, nations and languages, adapting in this process a transnational role. After a brief sketch of the methodological issues that this concept implies, this study maps the articles published by Schiaffino between 1882 and 1891, to then trace some of his international movements in these texts. Focusing on his articles written from Europe, it analyses his confrontation with modern travel, including the impact of writing en route and the identity negotiation that his travel condition implied. |
