Description
Summary:Based on studies of the sea lion carried out on the island of Angel de la Guarda in the Gulf of California during 1986, 1987 and 1988, it has been established that the reproductive season of sea lions is between May and June. The births begin in the third week of May and end in the third week of July. It has been recommended that special captures of live animals should only be allowed between the months of January and March. This study proposes that the weight and size increment of the pups during their first year of life responds, in the case of males to a potential model, and in females to an exponential model. From these models we can derive the minimum capture size of 100 cm length and 19 kg weight. This size is reached by the age of seven months.
