Description
Summary:This article tackes the representations of sex work in videogames, and shed light on the link between these representations, videogame creators and these ob-scene works, in AAA, independent and adult games. After a study of loci where sex work happens in game (the streets, clubs and brothels), and the link between these and narrative aspects of these games, the present analysis deals with two types of portrayals of sex work. First, euphemistic, cute prostitutes and then, sex robots. In the last section, this paper shows the power dynamics in gendered portrayals of sex workers—and games developed for or by sex workers. Personal testimonies go beyond fantasy-heavy representations and shortcut the devaluation of this (these?) lines of work in games.
