description | Abstract Context: Cancer is a major public health problem and health education can help improve the quality of life and the perception of well-being in cancer patients. Objective: To establish the impact of educational workshops on the perception of well-being and quality of life in cancer patients at the SOLCA Chimborazo Hospital in Ecuador. Method: A sample of 26 cancer patients who attended the SOLCA Chimborazo Hospital during a period of seven months were included. The themes developed were healthy lifestyles and personal motivation. The attendees were asked to take the SF-36 Health Survey questionnaire both at the beginning and the end of the project. Results: The increase in the perception of well-being and quality of life after the intervention was statistically significant; an improvement was seen in all dimensions, particularly in Mental Health and Limitations by Emotional Problems. In the healthy lifestyle workshops, the patients identified what constitutes an adequate diet, the importance of physical activity, and stress control. The personal motivation workshops contributed to the progressive development of capacities to continue fighting for well-being, health, and life with the analysis of the testimonies. Conclusion: The health education workshops had a positive influence on the perception of well-being and quality of life in cancer patients at the SOLCA Chimborazo Hospital. |
