description This article seeks to identify the configuration of language in relation to the mask, based on the anthropological context of Bobo’i. From the conclusion to the silence of the mask (Le Moal 1980), to the postulate of the language of the mask and the mask language (Millogo 1988, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2008; Sanou 2010, 2017, 2018a), there is a theoretical milestone in the transition of the design of the mask as an observable of “primitive society”, to the design of the mask as the place of manifestation of a semiosis and a poiesis, a system of production of meaning and communication. The challenge of this new thinking is to identify the particular semiotic register of this otherness to homo symbolicus, in a cosmic structure where the mask is part of a full ontology: the status and configuration of a specific “langagité”.
