description | This study aim ed to determine the cognitive structures of the students studying in the 8th grade of secondary school for distance education with the help of a word association test. There search was carried out following the descriptive survey model. The study group of the research consisted of 163 students studying in the 8th grade of a public secondary school in the Şehitkamil district of Gaziantep in 2021. The word association test (KIT) prepared by there searchers was used as a data collection tool. While determining the key concepts in theresearch, attention was paid to selecting concepts directly related to distance education. In this direction, the concepts of EBA, ZOOM, EBA TV, “Lessons in Distance Education,” "Teacher in Distance Education," and "Student in DistanceEducation" were chosen as keyconcepts. The collected data were analyzed by generating frequency table sand determining cut off points. According to there search results, while the critical concept that the students associated with the most words were ZOOM with 843 words, the concept with which they associated the least was the concept of "Student in Distance Education" with 716 words. While students associate the words internet, phone, live lesson, lessons, teacher, password, microphone, camera, tablet and computer with the ZOOM key concept; tablet, internet, phone, EBA, ZOOM, computer, difficulty, internet problem with the fundamental concept "Student in Distance Education". They areas sociated with the words not understanding and not understanding. When the words that students as sociate with the critical concepts related to distance education are examined, it is concluded that their mental structures are mainly shaped around the concreteneeds necessary to continue distance education and the technical problems experienced in thedistance education process. It was determined that the mind maps of the students were simple; the branching in the mind map sand the number of different types of words were low. |
