description The effects of changes of ozone on the erythemal effective irradiance in Innsbruck have been studied for the periods January to May 1993-96. These periods are characterized by large variability in total ozone (e.g. spring 1994). Daily totals of erythemal effective irradiance are particularly affected if both ozone and cloudiness amplify their influences. Otherwise, cloudiness is a masking factor due to its large variability. As effects of cloudiness and turbidity on erythemal effective irradiance and total irradiance are about the same, they are reduced in the ratio of erythemal effective irradiance to total irradiance. Thus ozone remains the dominant factor. However, daily totals of the erythemal effective irradiance averaged over 7 days are within the standard deviation of the reference series 1981-1988.
