Summary: | The paper aims to critically reconstruct and analyse Jaspers’ concept of Durchbruch, roughly – and not easily– translatable as «breakthrough», as it is a crucial feature in his theoretical work called On Truth. More specifically, the idea of Durchbrechen displays an essential relation to its apparent opposite, the Grund: only a foundation can actually be broken through. But what happens after the breakthrough? In Jaspers’ case, Durchbrechen is conceived as a continuous and endless plurality of acts: Existence infinitely looks out to reach Being, penetrating and overtaking the historical horizon in which it is situated, but in doing so only ends up in another and equally limited horizon. This dynamic share crucial insights not only to understand Jaspers’ thought, but also to reflect on the essential meaning of philosophizing: more precisely, it allows us to reconsider speculative thinking as the most intense process of praxis.
