description The paper analyzed the temporal variability and the linear tendency of the annual and monthly maximum temperature of air, the variability of the decennial maximum temperature of air, the annual and monthly number of summer days and tropical days, as well as the linear tendency of the annual number of these days. For this study, meteorological data were used regarding the daily, monthly and annual maximum air temperature, the monthly and annual number of summer days and tropical days, from the Deva meteorological station, over a period of 60 years (1961-2020). The result was that the absolute maximum air temperature was 40.0°C and was registered on July 24, 2007, at Deva. The linear tendency of the annual maximum temperature was upward. Since 1987, there has been an increase in the annual maximum temperatures. The highest decennial maximum temperature had the 5th decade, followed by the 6th decade, and the lowest the 2nd decade. The decennial maximum temperature increased from the 2nd decade to the 5th decade by 4.3°C. In all 12 months of the year, the linear tendencies of the monthly maximum air temperature were upward. The most pronounced increase in the monthly maximum temperatures has been recorded in recent years, in the winter and summer months. Since 1994, the annual number of summer and tropical days has greatly increased. In the last decade, the summer season has been extended by 18 days in Deva, on average. The linear tendencies of the annual number of summer and tropical days for the period 1961-2020 are upward. The increase in the number of tropical days is more pronounced than that of summer days.
