| description | Rapid change in the profession of guides can be observed today. It seemed interesting to understand the identity and position of this profession, its socio-professional composition, and to observe its evolution in the cultural heritage sector. This study will offer some interpretation of the social, cultural and political context of tourist guiding and how it is organised in France. Guides react to the evolution of culture and its environment, accompanying their audience. They translate the mentality of the territory they belong to and represent and they make it accessible to visitors. They fit into the broader concept of cultural mediation which is also the context of our study. It analyses the interaction between the visited, the visitor and the interpreter from the tourist guide-cultural mediator point of view. |
