| description | The paper analyzes the features of text, due to which it can be referred to as a means of studying factor type intentional lexical units that denote one of the seven stages of a volitional action: desire, intention, decision, plan, preparation, attempt, realization. These stages form an abstract, “perfect”, model of this type of action. Imperfection of real models calls for efficient means of their studying. This research shows that a literary text is rich in concrete cases of a volitional action. Besides, the following typical features of the units in question are most vivid in this type of text: factor dependence, sequence of stages, semantic deficiency, cumulativeness, intentionality. The research is based on a volitional action model in A. Christie’s novel «The murder of Roger Ackroyd», which includes four of the seven stages. |
