| description | Infectious diseases, and within them bacterial bronchopneumonia, represented a potential source of morbidity, mortality and disability among the elderly. It was conducted a research in development, observational descriptive cross-sectional was conducted in Geriatric Service at “Arnaldo Milian Castro” Hospital between September 1st, 2014 and September 1st, 2015 with the aim of describing the behavior of mortality for acute respiratory diseases in the elderly. The population of study was constituted by all the deceased; their medical records and their geriatric assessments were reviewed. The largest group were males, especially in the group of 80-89 years, the average stay was from one to seven days, the main diagnoses (both clinical and autopsy) were severe bacterial bronchopneumonia, it was poor the death rate with necropsies performed and the clinicopathological relation of necropsies made was high. |
