Description
Summary:The article aims to analyze the policies for the control of tuberculosis in Colombia between 1975 and 2010. During the 1980s, there was an effort in management of the control programs that was reflected in the reduction of incidence and mortality. Since 1993, when the National Health System was dismantled and resource management was privatized, the performance indicators of the control program showed significant deterioration. Since 2009 there has been an effort to clarify and strengthen the control policy of tuberculosis. However, the structure of the health model remains untouched and results don’t show significant recovery that would allow by 2015 an increase in the notification and cure of at least 85% of patients with tuberculosis, and a reduction in incidence and mortality of 50%.
