Description
Summary:We off er in this article a relevance-theoretic analysis (Sperber & Wilson, 1986, 1995) of a scene of the game Só perguntas (Questions only) of the TV Show É Tudo Improviso (It’s all Improvisation). In this theatre game, actors must develop a theme with successive questions, demanding the actors to avoid providing relevant answers by acceptance/rejection of the propositional logical form of the opponent’s yes-no question, or by complementation of the non-propositional logical form of the opponent’s whquestion. In this scene, the theme of the game — “tie” — moves from CLOTHING to FIGHT, when César Gouvêa proposes a fi ght and Marco Gonçalves questions the ability of his opponent. A duel follows, and Marco Gonçalves fi nds a winning strategy. He launches successive wh-questions until César Gouvêa ends up, providing the relevant answer.
