description | In the contemporary society, where geographical and temporary barriers are getting smaller due to the popularization of internet, translation has an essential role, because it allows people from different cultural contexts to share real-time information. Translation is seen not only as the process of searching for semantic equivalences, but as resignification of contents in new contexts. This article purposes a reflection about the interface between journalism and translation, relating the pillars of these professions – search for objectivity and fidelity, respectively – and the influence of many constraints to each both professions are submitted to, through the Theories of Journalism and Translation Studies. This work aims to identify different approaches of the Brazilian president Dilma Rousseff’s impeachment process in the international media, by a sociolinguistic point of view, through the comparison of news published in English and Portuguese. We try to identify the linguistic choices which mark these approaches. To do so, we selected news published on the selected languages on Huffington Post and BBC, at the date of the impeachment voting by the Brazilian Congress, April 17th, 2016. This article presents a qualitative study to the light of Corpus Linguistics, with the aid of terminological tools, which allows the observation of many different aspects of the texts which are relevant to the linguistic research. The analysis showed us that journalistic translation goes beyond the semantic field, as it participates actively of the political games through semantic choices marked by ideologies of actors involved in the process. |
