Summary:Acne is a chronic inflammatory disease involving the sebaceous unit of hair follicles, with a complex pathogenesis. Currently, it is believed that the pathogenesis of acne is related to androgen levels, excessive sebum secretion, hyperkeratosis of hair follicles, C.acnes and others. In recent years, studies have revealed the pathogenic role of a variety of inflammatory factors in acne, among which IL-17 is highly expressed in the epidermis and serum of acne patients, and its levels are positively correlated with the severity of acne, becoming a biomarker for early diagnosis of acne. A large amount of evidence indicates the involvement of IL-17 in the pathogenesis of acne, possibly playing a dominant role. IL-17 is involved in the inflammatory cascade of various acne, thereby changing severity of inflammation. But the specific mechanisms are not clear. This article reviews the research progress of the correlation between IL-17 and acne, and discusses the anti-inflammatory and therapeutic effects of anti-IL-7 on acne, in order to determine the pathogenic role of IL-17 in acne.
