| Summary: | Despite many articles, reports and attention in the meantime in
the mass media, blockchain technology is for most associated with bitcoin, risk,
speculation, high volatility and also the dark side of the Internet. The potential
of the technology is ignored in these sometimes emotional discussions. In order to
make a small contribution to objectification, this following essay is written. It
explains the environment in which this technology has been implemented, the
ingenious approach behind the technology, the current state of development and how
the blockchain technology can learn from other approaches to data storage and
processing. For this the graph database is used and both approaches are compared.
