Summary:This article analyses the conflict between the amateurs of the General Commissariat for Archaeological Research (1939-1955), managed by the Falangist Julio Martínez Santa-Olalla, and the professional archaeologists of the CSIC and the Spanish university. We will show that through this conflict, the professionalization of the discipline is reinforced when the amateurs stay out of the system.
